Our people

Andrea Patterson

How long have you worked for Corney & Barrow?
I started at Lloyd’s as bar staff 8 years ago and have gradually worked my way up. I spent 3 years as GM at Canary Wharf until last summer when I opened our newest bar at Paternoster Square.

What do you love about Corney & Barrow?
The people I’ve met, both colleagues and customers. Also, I love the autonomy. There are not many companies where you are given complete control in running every aspect of your business. It's pretty inspirational that whilst I’ve been here both MD's have come from within, working their way up the ranks from Managers. The training is also a massive plus, it really focuses on individual development. The focus is on people, not facts and figures. Lots of companies promise you things, Corney & Barrow don't just promise, they deliver.

What don't you love about Corney & Barrow?
Wine tastings in the mornings!!

What’s your Corney & Barrow highlight?
Winning Bar Manager of the year at our Annual Awards ceremony last year.

Bar Staff at Corney & Barrow, Broadgate Circle

How long have you worked for Corney & Barrow?
Exactly a year. I am originally from Italy, it is my first job in London and I’ve just stayed!

What do you love about Corney & Barrow?
You are treated like a person not just another waitress by the managers here. It’s really nice, very welcoming. They really helped me work on my English too.

What don't you love about Corney & Barrow?
Nowhere’s perfect, but I honestly have no complaints!

What’s your Corney & Barrow highlight?
This sounds weird but I really enjoyed a Saturday training day we had here. It was a great opportunity to get to know the Managers and Staff better, we had loads of fun and all went out together afterwards!

Ben Sabatelli
Head Chef at Corney & Barrow, Canary Wharf

How long have you been at Corney & Barrow?
Over 4 years. I was Chef de partie in the opening team of our Old Broad Street bar. I progressed to Head Chef at Jewry Street and have also worked at CityPoint and Canary Wharf where I am currently based. In fact I think I’ve worked in all the kitchens at some point over the years!

What do you love about Corney & Barrow?
The package is very good – I like the fact they pay for half my gym membership! The training is also very good, the Chef’s training school is a great opportunity for Head Chef’s in the making. Career progression is very much encouraged. It’s also great having the weekends off – I didn’t think I’d ever get that as a Chef!

What don’t you love so much about working for Corney & Barrow?
That’s a very tricky question. I’m not sure – I suppose that’s why I am still here! I don’t like the paperwork but it has to be done!

What’s your Corney & Barrow highlight?
When I was promoted to Head Chef at CityPoint – it’s nice to work in a big kitchen and have a big team. The pay rise was good too!
